Neck lift in Zurich
A neck lift can address loose skin and changes in the soft tissues of the neck. Whether a lift, platysmaplasty, liposuction or a combination with a facelift is appropriate depends on the findings.
At NP Aesthetics, planning is carried out by Dr. med. Michael W. Payne. Consultations and surgery currently take place at Klinik Selnau.
What would you like to change?
You may be concerned about a less defined contour beneath the chin, excess skin or visible muscle bands. These changes can have different causes. The first step is therefore to assess how skin, fat and muscle contribute to the findings.
What is assessed during the examination
The examination considers skin elasticity, fat distribution, the platysma and the transition to the jawline. Chin shape and deeper anatomical structures also influence the result that can be achieved.
The face and neck are considered together. Treating the neck alone may be appropriate if the changes are mainly confined to the neck. If tissues in the lower face and along the jawline have also descended, a combined approach is considered.
An overview of the procedures
Neck liposuction
Where skin elasticity is suitable, this can reduce superficial fat deposits. On its own, it does not adequately address pronounced skin laxity or muscle bands.
Platysmaplasty
This involves adjusting the superficial neck muscles according to the findings. Whether and how they are treated depends, among other things, on the visible bands and tissue tension.
Isolated neck lift
If the findings predominantly concern the neck, a procedure limited to this area may be an option. Excess skin and the treatment required for deeper structures determine the planning.
Combination with a facelift
If both the jawline and neck have changed, a combined treatment may be appropriate. A more extensive procedure also involves more surgery and must be compatible with your health and recovery plans.
The procedure and anaesthesia
Following the consultation and examination, the surgical plan is agreed. The extent of surgery, incision placement and anaesthesia are discussed individually. Before the procedure, we explain the preparation, your stay and aftercare.
Recovery
Swelling and bruising may occur in the early stages. Allow some flexibility when planning work and social commitments. Clearance for sport and more strenuous activity depends on your recovery; a specific timetable should be discussed during your personal consultation.
After surgery, follow the instructions provided on positioning, wound care and movement. The result can only be assessed reliably as the swelling subsides.
Risks and limitations
Possible risks include postoperative bleeding and haematoma, infection, wound healing problems, unfavourable scarring, changes in sensation and nerve injuries. Asymmetry, persistent discomfort or a result that does not meet your expectations may also occur. Revision surgery may be necessary. There are also anaesthetic risks and general surgical risks.
A neck lift does not stop ageing. Your underlying anatomy limits how much the contour can be changed. Complete symmetry or a particular result cannot be guaranteed.
Costs and personal consultation
The medical consultation for surgical procedures costs CHF 250. Following the examination, you will receive an individual cost breakdown for the recommended procedure. This should clearly state which services are included.
Frequently asked questions
Is liposuction enough to address a double chin?
That depends on the cause. Where there is excess skin, muscle banding or deeper anatomical factors, liposuction alone is often insufficient.
Does a neck lift have to be combined with a facelift?
No. If the changes mainly affect the neck, an isolated treatment may be appropriate. The jawline is still assessed as part of the examination.
Will there be scars?
Surgical incisions leave scars. Their location and extent depend on the procedure; scar development varies from person to person.
How long does the result last?
A fixed duration cannot be guaranteed. Ageing, skin quality and lifestyle influence subsequent changes.

A good decision begins with a conversation.
The initial consultation is about clarification, not selling. It does not necessarily end with a surgery date — often it brings the realisation that a different approach, or no procedure at all, is the right choice.
